One of the most diverse and fun ways to celebrate all things Disney is by collecting and trading pins. Disney has produced and released thousands of pins over the years to commemorate beloved characters and significant events in Disney history. To start a collection of your own, there are a few helpful things to know.

Pins Have Unique Characteristics

Collectible pins come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials. Some pins may be designed by a featured artist. Jumbo and Super Jumbo pins are larger and may have special features. Pins may have a 3-D element or a dangling feature. Many are made of enamel or enamel cloisonné with a metal base. The one characteristic that is common to all pins is that each has a sharp point with a detachable backing.

When Are New Pins Released?

New pins and new editions have a limited release, meaning only so many are produced, and only for a limited amount of time. They are released at special events, at movie premiers, and at opening days for new attractions, among other select occasions.

The Trading Game

All Disney resorts (with the exception of Tokyo Disney Resort) and the Disney Cruise Lines participate in pin trading. Cast members who work at the resorts and on the cruise ships wear lanyards with selections of pins for the purpose of trading with Disney guests. There are rules and etiquette attached to the game. For example, a guest may only trade with a specific cast member twice. However, if that cast member trades with or gives a lanyard to another cast member, a guest may again trade for the pins on that lanyard.

Display Options

Another fun aspect of Disney pin collection is display. There is a wide variety of ways to show off the beautiful artwork and diversity of pins, limited only by one’s imagination. Wherever pins are available, a collector may purchase:

· Pin bags

· Notebooks

· Frames

· Corkboards

· Lanyards.

Whether you play the trade game or just like to collect, Disney pins can provide endless enjoyment.
