''Potent colors and engaging light are vessels I hope will bring you into the atmosphere of my paintings and leave your spirit wanting to stay. Quite simply, I want you to long to be in the painting, to take comfort and smile with a sense of whimsy, a sentiment in my paintings that can be contributed to my influential background in professional studio animation and video game art.''
Having grown up in New Jersey, Rob sought a warmer climate for his college career and enrolled at UCF where he studied criminal justice. Following graduation, Rob accidentally began working for a number of small animation studios. Because Disney had recently relocated their animation studios to California and many animators chose to remain and work in Florida, Rob found himself working ''along side quite possibly the most talented artists I've ever known right there in those small studios.'' Their influence was invaluable.
While at the studios, Rob had the opportunity to work in many areas of film. In particular, the time spent in character creation and environments heavily influenced his painting style. For some time, Rob worked as a character artist for the Electronic Arts (EA Tiburon) creating human likenesses in games.
Largely a self-taught artist and perhaps best known for his original character Beau the frog and his Friends Along the Way, oil painter Rob Kaz says the privilege he's been granted to paint Disney characters does not escape him. ''As a lifelong Disney fan with a great appreciation for the artist who created these characters I get to paint, I make a concerted effort with each painting to pay full respect to their creations and their intents with the stories they originally told. I want to believe if they saw my paintings, I'd get a nod of approval.''
When Rob paints, he looks for ways to impart joy, smiles and happiness. ''I paint scenes that personally make me happy and I can only hope that collectors feel the same. I give a lot of thought to lighting. I incorporate tiny details for the viewer to find. I plan stories in my mind, but they're loose enough for the collector to decide on their own story and build upon the scene I've given them. But always, with each painting, I want to see people smile. I love it when I see a child (grown or at heart) point to my work and make their way to it from across the room. I love it when I hear them say, ''Look!'' in such a way that their joy is evident.''
